Indian Premier League | Let the games begin

Long wait of IPL will be over today. I guess there are lot of expectation and skeptism of the whole IPL saga among cricket feternity. At this moment, I guess except english cricket administrators most have a lot of expectations from IPL. What started as a knee jerk reaction to Subhash Chandra's Indian Cricket League, has turned the cricketing world upside down. ICL mean time continuing its run effectively but how long that's the question. May be in coming months/years ICL and IPL will merge for the good of game.

Now stage is set for IPL carnival to start. Today Bangalore's Chinnaswamy stadium will host Royal Challengers versus Knight Riders match to start a new era of cricket. No one at this point of time knows, whether this will lead cricket to progress or destruction.

The main fear is destruction of test cricket / ODI due to IPL or T20 cricket. I am not sure about ODI's but as long as cricket is played Test cricket can not die. Test cricket is the purest form of cricket and a true gauge of cricketers caliber.

Talking about today's match, I am expecting a lot but certainly not sure what is my expectation.

India V/s South Africa : Preview

I think there will be some unpleaseant surprises for Indian fans coming out of this serise. I guess Indian team is very much ill prepeared for this serise. There Performance down under has given them a real high and also I guess everyone ( including players and fans alike) is expecting too much from IPL and in comparison nothing from this serise.

I guess senior v/s junior debate can prompt Seniors to shows the world who is the real boss by there performance. I guess with a little / more struggle Indian will emrge as winner.

India Down under - Series Review

Expectations: All the talk of resurgent Indian team to prove correct, India has to perform well in the current tour to Australia. First test, first day and the performance are not exactly disappointing. It is very much possible that we can win a test series down under.

Test Series:
India lost the first test match without much of an expected fight. For me the loss was mainly due to approach rather than anything else. This is what I have observed many times that India normally starts away test series with some kind of ambiguous approach or wait and watch policy. Sydney test had a lot of drama and I guess some long lasting effects on India - Australia cricketing relations. All the wrong decisions, Australia's desperation to have the record equaling win by any means and the symond - bhajji 'monkey' drama. Even thou Australia won the test match, I dont want to count this result. Perth was a good comeback by India and they were deserving winners. Fourth test was golden chance for India to rewrite the history books but the draw left them wanting for more.

As all the India - Australia series since 2001, this was also a high drama series. Kumble the captain emerged as a star performer and a gentleman cricketer who plays his game hard. But experience has no replacement in longer version of the game. Australians looked really silly in the aftermath of Sydney test fiasco. It was a good performance by India and it was evident that Australians are not the same team; they used to be without the start. Still they are the best but the difference between Australia and rest of the cricketing world is diminishing.

ODI Series
Performance was OK during the group stages and brilliant in the finals. MSD looks to be man in control and a man of vision. He dont make things complicated, keeps things simple be it batting, planning or selection of team. There is no replacement for sachin Tendulkar. He will never speak, but the loud talk his performances give, make the critics eat humble pie. Youngsters are performing consistently and the outstanding performance by Ishant sharma throughout the series was commendable. He certainly looks like future of Indian bowling. Praveen Kumar, the man with swing also did a wonderful job

India Downunder

INDIA's SERISE WIN

That was a good serise win for indian team. Coming strong after world cup debacle, no one thought they will recover so fast that to without a coach. There was great team spirit and in every sense of word, it was a team victory. Everyone contributed for the cause. Goldies were really good.

India's win in 2nd test was there 5th win on england soil. But neither english team has any great performance on indian soil. As we observe the performance in steps (last 15-25-50 TESTS), It is interesting fact to note that india comes on top. They are better side be it home or away. Take a look at following stats, specially W/L ratio, to understand what exactly I meant.

CWC 2007 - Finals : Preview

Now as the dooms day is coming closer, it remains to be seen who will finally lift the trophy. Certainly the way Aussies are playing there should not be any ambiguity in decidings who will finally lift the trophy. But there is a serious problem between what is there and what you want ( ofcourse this thing is there only if you are not australian).

If we start looking at things technically, australians are unmatched for. They got a good bowling attack, opner in great mode, captain majestic and bunch of high quality batesmans and filders. The records show they hardly falter at the last frontier.

Where as srilanka has got SANATH. He will be the main figure srilanka should be looking at and he should do well if srilanka wants to take that cup back home. They got good bowling attack with vaas ( reliable), malinga ( the slinger with outragiuos hair style) and magical murali. They can contain any batting line up as far as we look for record / ststs. The main concern is there batting except sanath and mahila no one is exactly reliable.

Any ways I think Aussies will win but I want srilanka to win.

Australia surprises mighty Bangladeshis.

In what can be called as upset of the millennium, Australians have managed to upset the mighty Bangladeshis. They won the match, that to in a convincing way. This has created a wave of enthusiasm in the diminishing world of cricket. Bangladeshi captain called it as a bad day at office. Poniting said he is flying really high with this unexpected victory. In a interview to a local TV channel, he said that Australian Prime minister John Howard, who is also a cricket enthusiast called him to congratulate on this achievement.

There were huge victory rallies in Australian cities of Perth, Adelaide, Sydney to celebrate there cricket teams success against cricketing power house Bangladesh.Many Australians said that this will take Australian cricket to new heights. Bangladesh has won all the previous world cups and tipped to be favorite to win this edition.

WC Progress

After watching first few matches it is clear that pitches will not be too much bouncy rather they will be slow turners or to be specific damp wickets. At different venues situation will be different but it will have more or less same characteristic. So its not going to be a high scoring world cup rather it will be a world cup of spinners and medium pacers. These conditions certainly suit subcontinent teams.

Ireland can be surprise package this world cup. There performance is certainly credible in the matches (including warm up) they have played till now. Kenya looks to be a strong team than most have thought about it. They certainly have a good fielding unit and a very descent bowling. I am not sure of there batting thou, still we are in for a surprise from 03 semifinalists.

India will be playing there first match tomorrow against Bangladesh. I want a convincing victory tomorrow ......

First Match | WI v/s PAK

After a long wait of four year, the world cup will start today. This is a must watch match, since it will give a feel about whats going to happen over next few days. I feel that Pakistan will win this match, if there missing players are assumed to be playing. They have a good batting line up, but there bowling looks terrible. Gul, Rana etc can bowl sincerely but they are no asif or shohaib.

WI on other hand, not missing any players but the quality of the existing players ( sp Bowlers ) is certainly questionable.

WC 2007 | Pakistan Team

Pakistani team has a good batting line up but there main streangth was there bowling attack. There was set back when allrounder razzaq had knee injury but with fitness problems of akthar and asif, there chances of even reaching semi's are reduced many times.

They have got no good bowlers now, accepted that they are unpredictable but still i feel that they will be finished in super eight.

Akthar is a big loss for this world cup.

WC 2007 : Analysis and Prediction - III

If Without Upsets all the team go to super eight then we will be having a super eight table some thing like , Semifinalists wiil be : IND, SAF, WI and AUS/NZ

I want India to win the cup but i think this list below I feel is the possibility of teams can win the cup in that order. South Africa certainly are the hot fav's to win the cup, followed by aus. Then we have IND, NZ, PAK, SL, WI in the same level followed by England. The last bunch is BAN, KEN and ZIm. You cannt go beyond that predicting a winner even with you wildest imagination.
